REGISTRATION AND PROTECTION OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS
An industrial design means any composition of lines or colours or any three dimensional form, whether or not associated with lines or colours, which gives a special appearance to a product of industry or handicraft. Lifespan of an Industrial Design is for 15 years.

Filing of an Industrial Design

- Request letter – This is application letter
- Submit to the registrar application letter, attaching Form 7 and two (2) copies of items shown in the checklist.
- Refer to the schedule of fees
Registration and Publication
- When an Industrial Design is accepted, you are invited to pay for Registration and publication fees
- Write a letter of acceptance of payment fees.
- After payment of the registration and publication fees, you will be issued with certificate.
Changes and Amendments of an Industrial Design
- Change of name of applicant
Applicant can change the personal details from the initial application
Notify the Registrar in writing and pay a prescribed fee
- Change of address of applicant
Applicant can change the address details from the initial application
Notify the Registrar in writing and pay a prescribed fee
- Change of address for service
Applicant can change their agents from the initial application
Notify the Registrar in writing and pay a prescribed fee
- Change of ownership of an Industrial Design
Applicant can transfer their rights to a third party through the following ways:
Assignment
The applicant transfers ALL the rights to the third party
Notify the Registrar in writing, complete form 22, attach Deed of Assignment (Agreement) and pay a prescribed fee.
Renewal of registration of an Industrial design
Application may be renewed five (5) years after filing date, but the applicant may upon request renew for two further consecutive periods of five years each. The Renewal of an Industrial Design shall be made during the six months period before the expiry of the registration.
- Notify the Registrar in writing and pay the prescribed fee
Failure to renew an Industrial Design within a grace period of six (6) months from the date of expiry, a surcharge fee will be charged
Industrial Design shall be deemed to be withdrawn if the owner fails to pay renewal fees. There is no RESTORATION
Filing of cancellation (Withdrawn) of an Industrial design
Notify the Registrar in writing that you wish to cancel your application.
